The Great Gatsby Chapter 2

1. The American dream is shown through Mrs. WIlson. It is apparent that she is poor and comes from that kind of background but aspires to be rich and wealthy. She absolutes refuses to admit that she is poor and comes from that background.

2. Nick is an honest man and comes from a very good background morally but he is now beginging to become more and more invloved with the style of the weathy.

3. in the first and second paragraph it talks about gray cars, ash grey men, and they gray land siginifying that it is very dim and boring like. There is absolutely no life to this place where ever you look whether it is alive or inatimate.

The Great Gatsby

1. “You make me feel uncivilized, Daisy,”…”Can’t you talk about crops or something” (pg 17) Coming to America and making money was the original “American Dream” and farming was one of those ways to make some cash. America was based on farming but as the nation evolved, farming became less and less noticable. Nick came to Daisy as a farmer and she married into a very rich family which put her in the party lifestyle, the new American Dream. To party.

2.As Nick becomes more and more exposed to the outside world or the city as in which Daisy and Tom lives in he is seeing things he has never seen before especially coming from a little farm town on the the west.  The things like an unloyal mrriage is coming into play, yet another aspect in which NIck has never seen.

3.When Tom asks Nick about rise of the coloured empire it is referring to racist views of colored people, Saying that they will spread all over if we dont stop them. This shows an early view of racism through Tom’s point of view which could evolve as the book prolongs
